Book Review: COMMANDING HIS HEART by C.K. Brooke
Title: Commanding His Heart (American Pirate Romances Book 2)
Author: C.K. Brooke
Category/Genre: Historical Romance
My Star Rating: 5/5
Goodreads Blurb: In Jamestown, 1785, Emeline Winthrop dreams of marrying a dashing groom...
When Em's parents bestow her hand to a coldhearted widower three times her age, she's desperate. On the eve of her engagement, she escapes to the James River and stows away aboard an acquaintance's rigger. Little does she realize, she's found her way aboard a pirate ship!
Commander Miers Redding would never have dreamed of pirating in his naval days...
However, partnering with the unsavory Captain Crawley is the only way to complete his dangerous mission. When a young lady sneaks aboard The Black Rose, his cover is nearly blown, but the quick-thinking commander saves their skins by pretending to be her husband.
A façade as newlyweds during a dangerous, whirlwind voyage to the Caribbean is bound to convince not only the pirate crew of the couple's affections, but possibly each other. Yet the mystifying Virginia belle is hiding something from him...
And what, exactly, is Commander Redding's mysterious mission?
These secrets could end their love, their mission--and their lives.
Commanding His Heart is the second standalone novel in C.K. Brooke's American Pirate Romance series.
My Review:
This is perhaps the most wholesome pirate romance I've ever had the pleasure of reading. The sweet, simple love affair between Em and Mr. Redding is darling though fulfilling; it's truly a connection of the heart. The heroine, Emeline, is ahead of her time, longing for freedom and relevancy. An entire cast of sword-totting characters lend to the story as a whole, none of them lacking. Of course, as you'll find with all of C.K. Brooke's books, the time period accuracy is without fault. Another job well done!
